Visit Diamond Head in Hawaii

Encompassing over 475 acres, the iconic Diamond Head State Monument is Hawaii’s most recognizable landmark thanks in large part to the unique profile of the mountain. One of the most popular attractions in Hawaii, Diamond Head is known for its historic hiking trail, stunning coastline views, and military history. Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach is located just about two miles from the monument, giving you convenient access to Diamond Head State Monument.

Climb to the summit of Diamond Head for a thrilling, authentic Hawaii adventure. The trail is less than a mile long but the summit is steep, so be prepared. (Allow anywhere from one and half to two hours for the entire hike). Once you reach the summit, you’ll enjoy stunning scenic views overlooking the ocean, as well as the original military bunkers and a huge navigational lighthouse built in 1917.

The crater was formed about 300,000 years ago during a massive explosion that released ash and fine particles into the air. As these settled they formed together into a rock creating the crater.

Diamond Head Trail


Open daily from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. The last entrance to hike the trail is at 4:30 pm and the gates are locked at 6:00 pm. All visitors must be out of the park by 6:00 pm.
